I came home from a gig one night and put the telly on. News Night was reporting on the civil war in Rwanda.
Two british officers on peace keeping patrol with the Red Cross were describing the situation and telling this particular story....
They heard the cries of a child from a mass grave just outside a village. They managed to locate where the cries were coming from and rescued an infant. They held the boy up to the TV camera and said “He has got some minor cuts and bruises and obvious trauma, but he will survive. We do not know his name.”
That’s when I decided to write a song for and about the boy and named him and his song Aberjay.
